New Wonder Cures?

....What do you think about glyconutrients for good health and healing? Also, phytonutrients. Many internet sites claim they cure leaky gut, fibromyalgia and many other conditions....

...Be doubly suspicious if the health claims focus on disorders such as leaky gut and fibromyalgia, which we really don't understand well and may be difficult to treat; be triply suspicious if the products are sold through multi...

Leaky Gut Syndrome

Intestinal permeability or leaky gut syndrome is the term used to describe a situation where the lining of the gut has become damaged, allowing things which would normally be contained within the gut to leak into the bloodstream.

According to nutritionists such as Erica White, leaky gut syndrome can be caused by candidiasis, where the yeast Candida albicans burrows through the gut wall, causing increased permeability. The food which leaks into the bloodstream is then attacked by the immune system, which becomes overloaded.

Nutritionists claim that leaky gut syndrome can cause food intolerances and an overload on the liver. It is sometimes treated with the amino acid glutamine, though White stresses that the candida overgrowth must be brought under control first.

It has become commonplace for people to mistakenly self-diagnose themselves with 'Leaky gut syndrome' in place of a simply treated acid indigestion problem, because of strong food odors that permeate from their bodies.

Food and Exercise: Drugs of Choice

...Eating the same foods over and over is one of the most sure-fire methods to developing a food intolerance. Not to be confused with a food allergy, food intolerances are negative reactions to foods that produce symptoms such as nasal congestion, skin conditions...

...Rotating your foods is not the only measure you must take to reduce your chances of developing a 'leaky gut' and the resulting food intolerances.

Pharmaceutical medications (especially NSAIDS), alcohol and stress have all been shown to cause a 'leaky gut.' I recommend that in addition to rotating your foods, you should work with a natural medicine...

Why the Low-Fat Diet is Stupid and Potentially Dangerous

...Despite my 'healthy' diet, and my daily strenuous training regimen, my blood pressure had risen from 110/65, a reading characteristic of highly-conditioned athletes, to an elevated 130/90.

I noticed it was becoming increasingly harder to maintain the lean, "ripped", vascular look that I had always prided myself on. Instead, my physique was becoming increasingly smooth and bloated.

My digestive system became progressively more sluggish, my stomach often feeling heavy and distended after meals. I frequently felt tired after meals. I showed signs of leaky gut syndrome, racking up a rather impressive list of irreversible food sensitivities....

...One of the first priorities of healthy eating is to consume the most nutrient-dense foods possible. Cutting your fat intake strongly impedes this goal via at least three mechanisms:
1) Directly slashing your intake of important vitamins and fatty acids;2) Reducing...

....When subjects ingested equal amounts of lutein--a carotenoid that may protect against age-related macular degeneration and cataract--from either whole eggs, spinach or supplements, it was observed....

....Cutting fat--as in saturated fat--worsens your omega-3 status. If you think that's a good thing, then low-fat nutrition has already scrambled your brain. My advice: Eat some fat before you become totally brain dead!...

...Feeling moody? Irritable? Always snapping at your kids for no good reason? Are you known around the office as "Attila the Grump"? If so, eating a low-fat diet isn't going to help the situation. In fact, a low-fat diet may actually be the cause of your mental funk!...
